Palette Knife Painting
I’ve been watching a few artists on YouTube using a pallet knife to create beautiful artworks. I was so fascinated with this technique, that I decided to try it myself. I really love this style as its “expressionism” at its best. Unlike using a brush, you will need to practice a few times, before mastering the technique.
I am not an expert on this subject, as such I have linked a few websites. You may find these helpful before you begin. You can read details of the benefits of using a palette knife, and other useful hints and tips.
A couple of months ago I attended a Painting workshop, by Melony Smirniotis called “Paint like Van Gogh”. It was using a palette knife with Impasto paint (thick heavy paint with texture)
It was an enjoyable workshop, including food and wine, and that kept us entertained for 3 hours. Using the palette knife with the creamy texture of the paint, was like spreading butter on toast!
Needless to say, we all created our own ‘faux’ Van Gogh artworks.
Maybe you might like to challenge yourself and have a go at using a Palette or Paining Knife!
