Bonsai Gardening
I’d like to tell you about my latest hobby. Earlier this year I was given a gift of a Bonsai plant. A very cute Cyprus tree. As we all know these are majestic trees and have to be treated like that. By July my collection had grown to 4 (all gifts). My brother a creative Bonsai enthusiast, and two other friends, also gave me Bonsais as presents for my birthday. What a Co-incidence!
These darlings needed lots of TLC, but I had no idea how to care for them. The following week there was a Bonsai Open day at West Pymble, with free clinic and workshop. I decided to go along to ask questions, and watch the experts demonstrating. The talks and demos were so educational and interesting, that I decided to join their study group. Listening to the passionate members and their stories of how therapeutic it was, won me over as an excellent hobby. Having down sized from a big garden to a small courtyard, I thought maybe I could have a miniature garden in little pots!!
A few weeks later, my brother took me to another Bonsai show at Dural, to show me some stunning specimens. I was also fortunate to get advice on my Azalea plant, and have it pruned for the next flush of flowers. If Bonsai gardening is something you might like, then you should watch some Youtube videos. You can also google related websites for information on how to get started. The Bonsai Plant Nursery at Dural is excellent, with everything you need to begin. If you are lucky you may meet the master himself – Ray Nesci.
