HEALTH AND WELLNES
Understanding the difference between Health and Wellness.
Health refers to physical, mental and social well-being. Wellness aims to enhance well-being.
There are four main dimensions of Wellness:
Spiritual Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Physical Wellness and Social Wellness.
Spiritual Wellness involves one’s values, beliefs, and purpose in life.
It drives us to explore our spiritual core, make sacrifices and help others less fortunate than us. This is my interpretation and how I choose to live my life. Through Spiritual Wellness we give gratitude of our purpose in life.
Emotional Wellness refers to building an awareness of and accepting one’s feelings and moods. Emotional wellness inspires self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner strength.
It allows us to be attentive to positive and negative feelings and be able to understand how to handle these emotions.
Physical Wellness is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most out of our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress. It also means making healthy food choices and paying attention to exercise and keeping active.
Social Wellness refers to the relationships we have and how we interact with others such as neighbours, friends, relatives and other networking groups.
Social wellness also involves building healthy, nurturing and supportive relationships with like-minded people who share the same values and beliefs like yourself.
Fostering these relationships are important as they can offer support during difficult times.
