Travel in Retirement
One of my favourite aspects of retirement is gaining more time to travel the world. My husband and I have been on some wonderful vacations and had amazing experiences! You can now visit holiday destinations put off previously, because you have more time. Over the last 40 odd years, we have been fortunate to travel to 12 countries and I will write about my experiences.
That’s why knowing your travel options and researching them is important. By doing this you travel smarter and have more spending money. Who doesn’t love to save money and get a great deal on travel?
Depending on where you are looking to travel, flying might be your best option. If you find special fares you should book in advance to save money . Saving on airfares can get to that dream destination you’ve had on your travel bucket list.
Cruising is another popular travel option and a very comfortable way to travel in senior years. You also have a choice of many exciting cities to choose from. From tropical cruises to the Caribbean and places like Antarctica or Alaska. If you are not concerned about dates, then you can pick up last minute deals to save money. I have enjoyed cruising on P&O Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Camping & Caravanning
Looking to other forms of travelling is key, too. Camping, caravanning, bus and coach trips are a few ways to help you travel more cost effectively. Coach and Bus travel is exciting as you meet new people and share travel stories with them. Travelling with existing friends deepen bonds as you experience adventures together.
Traveling by train can be a wonderful experience, as you can enjoy seeing the countryside. If you travel through Europe you will pass many cities. Travelling by train is also a more flexible and cost effective way to travel.
Bus and Coach Tours
There are several companies specialising in tailor made tours with seniors in mind. Make sure you choose one that suits your flexibility and pace. Some tours make you very tired, as you spend long hours on the road. If you have any dietary or special needs, you should advise the Travel Agent prior to booking.
Talking a road trip by car is a cost effective way to travel because, you can explore your own country.
No matter where you travel to, there is a method to get you there. You just have to find a cost-effective way to do it! I’m excited to share some of my retirement travel with you.
I encourage you to share your travel adventures, because it will inspire and help other travellers.
